Re: What have you just bought?

Yep. It's just the Essence STX in my sig running current official drivers with foobar2000's ASIO plugin. I don't think the Xonar Unified driver is on the cards since the now enforced driver signing on 8.1 disagrees with it. It can be installed in test mode as that disables the driver signing require...

Re: What have you just bought?

I bought 8 on a "may as well give it a go" basis when I built my current PC (around this time last year.) The PC was to be a light weight workstation and music box. (It's a completely passively cooled AMD A10-5700) Unfortunately the music side of things hasn't worked out due to some kernel...

Re: Headphones recommendations for an uni student.

When I owned the 440 (also as a student!) I found them to be pretty awesome with electronic music.
You'll find that the mids and mid-bass can be quite nice for anything that resembles EBM or industrial.
Soundstage may be a bit narrow for ambient/soundscape music though.

Philips Fidelio L1
Curiosity got the better of me after reading Tyll Hertsens visit to their R&D lab.
(page 3 is awesome!)

@bioxeed:
How is 8 on the RT?
Anywhere near as obnoxious as trying to use it on a touch-less desktop?

Re: Time for something new.

Overkill and too pricey.
Forgot to mention that my list is intended as $300 or less.

For now I'll get him listening to my AD900 and work it out from there.

Still curious how the DT440, K242HD and DT250 stack up against it though.
Anyone care to bite and give a rough run down on how they compare?

Re: Time for something new.

Awesome! The ModMic looks like the perfect solution to the problem of Hi-Fi vs. Headset. I'm already familiar with the Open vs. Closed debate. I think what matters here is sound stage. Hence the short-list of open cans. So perhaps what's best is to rank each of the aforementioned in terms of sound s...

Time for something new.

So the story goes... I have a friend who has been using a pair of AD700s for 7+ years now. He's planning a new PC and considering some new cans. He's starting to miss having anything resembling bass as his tastes in music have evolved over time. The uses for the headphones are and will continue to b...

Re: Sound card for computer + headphones

Sorry if this is a little necro by now...

This usb jog wheel would make a good physical volume control:

Should work nicely with an ST/STX based set up!

Re: Spotting pirated CDs

What soundtracks are you collecting BusinessEvolution? If you are looking to avoid a certain well known and wilfully dodgy douche of a seller... Some notably trustworthy eBay sellers are "champ_des_pins" & "otaku.com". My eBay (soundtrack) score is: Legit: 11 Dōjin: 7 (Unlice...

Re: SPL Auditor. no love?

@ledge: When you opted to go for the V200 did you listen first or order it unheard? Did you compare it to the V100? I'm considering either the V200 or the V100 as another upgrade to my PC set up toward the end of the year. (which would free up the m-stage for console use...) Wondering how big of a d...

Re: LSK IS ALIVEEEEEEEE

Also. They can't count. Ended up one screw short for the tweeters and had extras for the mids/woofers. Thats not like the lady that complained that McDonald's had messed up their order because she ordered one cheeseburger with cheese and one without, and McDonald's got the order back to front. The ...
