Re: DACMatrix combo (DACMagic and M-Stage) *SPECIAL ENDED*

Seems like a very dumb move. But hey, at least it removes the temptation of the DACMatrix for me :-)

Marcus, have you had a chance to listen to the DM+ yet?

"Right" is obviously subjective :-) They sound more like the MS-Pro, and to me that can only be a good thing.

Re: Objective 2 DIY amp under $100

Indeed. I sit in my cone of silence listening to my neutral source feeding neutral music into my neutral amp, powering my neutral headphones, drinking ice-water.

So should you.

Anything else interferes with the purity of the music listening experience.

Re: Audio Upgrades + Headphones Advice

Just as some balance... ;-)

I personally count the bowl pads as an essential upgrade. I think they *dramatically* improve the sound and I personally find them more comfortable, overall. I don't like the way the comfies touch your whole ear, even though they are much softer.

Not drink?

(I know, it's an absurd idea. But it's a sure-fire way to not get drunk).

Re: Objective 2 DIY amp under $100

I'm the same-ish. If I find someone interested in the 1s I'll sell them, but I can't be bothered trying to sell them through head-fi etc. They'll just sit in my drawer at work :-( It is nice to be able to borrow gear. I don't have that, other than via the returns policy (which is why I don't own a T...

Re: Objective 2 DIY amp under $100

Sell the MS1, you've got the Pro. Sell the 531, the 880 will cover that. Keep the 250, you need a closed phone. Come to think of it, sell the Pro too, the money will buy a really nice amp. Sell the O1. Buy a few cases of Sierra Nevada. I am selling the MS-1 - not because of the Pros, but because of...

Re: Objective 2 DIY amp under $100

Considering this, can we reproduce the music with true "fidelity"? And should we discount personal taste and enjoyment on the grounds of accuracy? I don't disagree. My point was more that (as much as possible) it makes more sense to aim for a neutral source and amp and let the headphones do the col...

Re: Objective 2 DIY amp under $100

So the reason you don't want an neutral amp is because they're expensive, even though we're talking about one that $100.

The logic, I does not follow.

Re: Objective 2 DIY amp under $100

And why would you want your amp to colour the sound? That's what the source and headphones are for. IMO the amp should just power the headphone sufficiently and nothing else. ^^ This. If you want a different sound, buy different headphones. A "coloured" amp just adds to the possible permutations of...

Re: Alessandro MS-1 Amp? Denon N7?

IME, MS-1s sound no different from my $400 amp/dac than straight from my ipad for phone. I wouldn't expect any audible difference.

IMO, headphones >>>> source > amp. Get good easy to drive headphones, run them from an mp3 player and you'll be miles ahead compared to driving lower quality phones with an awesome amp.

Re: MS1 Replacements

DT250 are certainly durable and sound great. However, being closed (and beyers) they sound a lot different to the MS-1, so be prepared for that.

They're not super-crazy comfortable, but once you're used to them they're quite good. I wear mine all day at work.
