Re: Tip/Advice for a proud new owners

Do: listen to music. Lost of it. Sometimes with alcohol.

Don't: read about gear; buy more gear; think about buying more gear*.

See, this is what I get for only relying on you guys for my gearwhoring. One little plane crash and I'm out of the loop.

Re: Burnin - should you bother?

Blind testing is fraught with inbuilt expectations of hearing something different, so no matter how scientificalogically you do it, it's going to be flawed somewhere. Not really. Unless you can statistically significantly pick the difference, it doesn't really matter what you *expect*. That's the w...

Re: New Brainwavz samples on the bench :)

Where did these brainwavz guys spring up from? Seems like they've come out of nowhere and are making some excellent gear.

Re: RE0 Replacement?

I went from RE0 (which I loved) to M3 (which I adore). Can't speak for the other options but I've been very, very impressed with the M3.

Heh. They are pretty awesome for a lot of stuff, and at $400 they're quite good value. Pretty sure I'd take the 250 over them though.

It's whatever your current setup is worth - ie for me it's $2.5k.

I use EAC for FLAC, then foobar + lame for FLAC => mp3.

Re: Headphones? Amps? What should I get?

Don't get the 880 for metal, IMO. The flat mids tends to suck the energy out of guitar-driven male vocal tracks.

I'd get DT250s and spend the rest on beer and music.

If you were starting out again...

As a thought experiment... say you were starting out from scratch with a budget that would let you replace your existing setup. What would you buy? How closely would it match your current setup? For me (not counting the iPad/phone) my budget would be about $2500. I'd buy: Work: - DT250 Home: - DT531...

Re: RCA Cable?

Jaycar's Concord cables are great. I *wouldn't* get the ones you linked (I have some) - they seem to be poorly shielded.

Re: M-Stage no sound

Coz cables never break?

IME, 80% of any channel problems have been in the cable (or plugs). Of course it's possible that the amp is dodgy, but cables break all the damn time. Easier to check than ship it back to Headphonic, just to find out there's nothing wrong with it.

Re: Broken DT440 :(

I buy O/S or second hand when I'm going to save 50%+, basically meaning I can replace them again if they die. There's nothing wrong with that, but, you pays your money and you take your chances.

Lucky you saved that $150, so now you can put it into repairs/new headphones :-)
