Re: K242HD, AD900 & K701 - Open Can for FPS Gaming

You've listened to both Matt? I'd like to hear why you think they're much better. Ta No. I haven't. I might have tried the Senns at Harvey Norman or something, but not the AD900. I've just read a lot about headphones and have gathered that they are a much better headphone. Firstly, the AD900 are ha...

Re: Amp/DAC for laptop use.

Ok. So the tubes are there to look good? No they're not. The EF2 is a hybrid design... tube input and solid state output stages. Having tubes wasn't the selling point (and you couldn't in all reason expect it to be for the price)... it's got reasonable quality build and sound and in budget for what...

Re: external headphone amp ?

The only downside was the leads on the LCD-2' are about 300mm to short, which gave me a good excuse to have a look at aftermarket cables. So i've got a set of these on order, with a bit of like the should be here in the next week or two. http://www.moon-audio.com/audio-cables/moon-audio-headphone-ca...

Re: What's your favourite CD (or CDs) at the moment?

New carbon based lifeforms album has shipped  CD is more of an ambient 'soundcape'- further steps from the other CBL CD's. Definitely more 'selective moment' type of CD to listen to as a result. Not a background music CD IMO. At first listen I thought 'this is all the same'. You have to list...

Re: Carbon Tax

I'm not really knowledgeable about these sort of things at all, but I've been hearing quite a bit about Thorium recently. Apparently its an alternative to uranium that is much more efficient to extract heat from (supposedly because it is a liquid), and it much safer (because it only reacts as long ...

Re: MS-1 Pads (Bowls vs Comfies)

..and I'm worried about what they'll do to the sound (esp the punchy bass) There's not huge shifts in sound quality - subtle differences IMO. 'Punchy bass' not lost with the bowl pads. What I gain is a little less 'in your face' concentrated sound and overall sound seems to be more balanced for my ...

Re: MS-1 Pads (Bowls vs Comfies)

I'd want them to last a fair bit before breaking down from being lugged around in my bag, but how's the comfort on them? I'd back the 414's handling this better than the bowls just given the lower profile in your bag. Comfort and sound quality will be what you prefer. I prefer the bowls due to soun...

Re: Dream set up

Can you get the NP30 in? Maybe you'd be able to do a nice deal on the NP30 plus either DACMagic or StageDAC. It's just a pity they didn't put a better DAC in it for the price. If you add a DAC you are basically spending $700 for the music streamer functionality and the sexy look. So .... IMO you ei...

Re: Dream set up

Foobar2000/iTunes > Cambridge Audio NP30 Network Music Player > Corda Concerto > LCD-2 What are your thoughts on this set up? Have all but the NP30 (currently using Cambridge Audio Azur 550C as source). Do you think think I would see any appreciable gain in sound quality if I put a Corda StageDAC b...

Re: Improving MS-1 Sound Quality

For your budget you'll be going for USB external dac/amp IMO if you want to use your laptop. Here's some likely candidates to do some research on: Fiio 7 Nuforce uDAC E-MU 0202 iBasso D2 & D4 Going cheaper is not going to give you worthwhile improvement IMO on your laptop soundcard. I'm with Ben on ...
