Just grab some JBL Spot or Creatures. They are suprisingly good for a small package.

again, necro thread.

I bought a small D-class amp, a Muse M20. It's got speaker mounts on the back of it. $50 off eBay.

Run a 3.5mm to RCA cable from the audio out of the laptop to the back of the little amp, and whack two 5 inch bookshelf speakers onto it. I bought jmax speakers, 2 for $99, they worked great.

20 watts is heaps of power, and 5 inch bookshelves were clear, and worked a charm. Better than any $150 dedicated computer speaker setup, I thought. YMMV.

I just googled Jmax speakers...they're 300 dollars and up new. I'm sure they sound better than 150 dollar speakers, but I'm also not sure it's a fair comparison.

You could ebay any number of decent bookshelf speakers for less than $120, especially used. Well, a dozen anyway. I still think you'll come out on top.

You'll also give your self some room to improve if you see fit down the line, without sacrificing the whole shebang.
