Who is up for the new Ipad?

Talk about Speakers, TVs, Projectors, Receivers, 2ch amps etc here!

The iPad is a "because it's there" item, people will buy it because they want it, and because they want to be seen with it. Practicality, usability, usefulness etc have nothing to do with it, it's just a toy for people to show off to people that don't care.

I think the best thing about the iPad is that it may springboard touchscreen technology moreso than has been done in the past, so we may see some proper laptops with good touchscreen technology built in over the next few years.

It’s exactly what I have desired for a long time, not that I will get one.

Why not a netbook?

Because a netbook is a different device, the iPad is designed to do these things where a netbook is a scaled down laptop.

If you don’t want a touchscreen buy a netbook, is you want something more powerful and useful get a laptop. It’s not fucking rocket science.

They’ve already sold 500,000 of them so there are people who want them.

I agree. The concept and interface looks great, but not for me until it is a proper, fully featured, fully powered PC replacement.

Yeah, but saying I don’t like it, it’s shit, Apple/Lady GaGa sucks, something else is better…. doesn't mean people won’t want or like it.

I suppose you really want to love lady GaGa too. :D

Added: I had an iPod Touch (gave it to my son), loved it and thought a bigger version would be great. I think touchscreen technology is fabulous because it’s so intuitive, after using the Touch while on holidays and getting back to my computer I was touching the screen trying to do things.

I'd love a Touch as a remote control. Small and usable one-handed.

call me old fashioned but I'm having a hell of a time getting into touchscreens

one of my pre-requisites for my last phone (Samsung SGH-i450) was BIG buttons!

now it seems that buttons are the exception and touchscreens are all the rage

Touchscreen is getting better for typing, and cheaper too. Besides it's the only way to incorporate large screen with ample button space without making the phone bulky.

yeah, in the last couple of days I've improved my typing speed considerably on the qwerty touchscreen, though I don't think I'm at the same speed as before. Also, maybe I have small hands but I cannot reach keys in the middle of my screen when I have the keyboard in landscape mode, so have been using it in portrait orientation.

The middle keys are a bit of a stretch for me on the iPhone. I don't mind the touchscreen keyboard but I hate how it takes up existing screen space, there is very little left to view when the landscape keyboard is up. Kinda tempted by the Blackberry's and I'm hoping HTC will update the G1.

ok I just read something about Swype, and one of the first phones to get it was the Samsung Omnia 2 in the US

However, I don't think the Australian delivered version (mine) has it... do any of the phone gurus here know if I can get it on my phone? It seems like exactly what I need but it's definitely not installed on my phone.

I tried googling but can't seem to find anything but info about it setting the guiness world record for fastest texting speed
