That's just being lucky! I did the same with my RE0s and have had to replace them, conversely a set of Vsonics I had more than a year ago went through the wash and still work fine..

Just doing some more reading around before making a decision - would the Beyer DT250's be worth the extra $$$$, considering they will be unamped and used primarily from an iPhone? Or would I be doing them a disservice/spending more money then required considering the source device? Not really keen on fiddling around with amps etc, now or in the future (although never say never :paranoid: )

Prefer circumaural cans to be honest, and because they will be primarily used at work, no issue with having full sized cans - plus my phone is already a finger print magnet, not sure I need cans that will look filthy in about 2 secs :lol:

Any other impressions/advice re: DT250's from an iPhone? Saw some conflicting older posts when going through a big search - some saying portable device wouldn't do them justice, others saying the 80ohm version sounds fine from a portable.

Ohmage alone often doesn't tell the full story of a certain headphones' efficiency. The DT250 may be 80ohms but I can drive it sufficiently loud AND maintain the good SQ with my PMPs.

They will run off PMPs, but I think amping does them more justice, they fill out and liven up more.

Hi all,

Looking at getting some canalphones as my stock ipod ones have had it. I'm tossing up between the Vsonic R02Pro2 and the HiFiMan RE0.

I listen to all sorts of music on my ipod, but primarily metal (eg Avenged sevenfold, alexisonfire, bullet for my valentine, killswitch engage, etc). Which canalphones would be more suited to my needs?

Cheers

It's been a year since the original post was made for recommendations.

Is it time for an update?

Hi guys,
I'm in the market for a set of headphones but I'm a little swamped with the variety out there and hope you guys could give me some advice. I've never had a decent set of headphones so Im really looking forward to getting a good pair. I think I have a fairly good idea of what I want, but I don't know whether they exist... I'm not set with these so if there's anything else I should be considering please suggest away..
OK, here we go:
-> headphones
-> for use with my iphone
-> for use mostly when travelling on the train & bus
-> closed (I dont want others to hear my music)
-> bluetooth
-> active noise cancellation (I think I want these because the train is pretty noisy)
-> I want to be able to answer calls without taking the headphones off. So a micrphone I guess.
-> fold up so I can pop 'em in my bag
-> cups not too massive. I dont want to look like a w@nker who has bought really expensive studio headphones

I had a look at Sennheiser MM 450s which are pretty expensive but I think they tick all the boxes (not sure about being able to answer phone calls though).

All I hear from my friends is sennheiser sennheiser sennheiser! Any suggestions for anything else I should be looking at?

You're asking for a fair few things that will increase the price massively, without adding to quality.
If you want to block outside noise, and still have control over your music etc, a set of iPhone compatible canalphones will do an excellent job. They will block heaps of noise, sound great and be very portable without costing a great deal.

Noise cancelling is arguably useless if not flying. Some benefit in reducing train rumble, but that is the only noise they'll filter, you'll still hear chatter. And NC tech bacground hiss.

Bluetooth will reduce available SQ. If you want lots of gadgets, expect to pay a huge premium, and get very little in the way of sound, I'll bet a $100 canalphones will cack all over the MM450 for SQ.

All you'll hear is Sennheiser, because you can get them at JBs, but there's better for the money in every price range they sell at.

Hey guys, i have looked around the forums but sorry if i'm repeating a question that has already been asked... :paranoid:

I've decided that i want to get good quality canalphones. After two years or so with stock iPod earphones it's time to find something that i'll love way more (I have used canalphones before). Seeing as i'm far from an audiophile or being extremely fussy over audio in the first place, i figured the best place to start was a good <$100 pair. I was originally wanting to spend $70-ish, as i saw some MetroFi 220's for that price, but was told it would be worth the extra $30 to get a better pair over those.

So other than the 220 it really comes down to the R02Pro2 or the PL50 from what i can see. I saw that the R02Pro2 is listed as 'back soon' however, but i'm still curious to see how those three go against each other.

I listen to a few different kinds of music, although the majority is Heavy Metal and Alternative Rock (Lately it's been bands like Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, The Mother Hips, and so on). It will most likely be a long while before i ever upgrade so i'd hope whatever ones i do buy will last quite a while, which shouldn't be an issue as i look after everything i own. I mainly listen to my ipod when walking to parts of town and before bed time.

Which one do you guys think would be the better phones to buy?
