DT880 better than AD900?

Headphones, Headsets, Earbuds, Canalphones - stuff that goes on, around or in your ears.

The MSPro is a completely different headphone again, but they slot right into my "dynamic vs soundstage" argument. They don't have anywhere near as wide a soundstage as the AD900/DT880/K701, but what they lack in soundstage they make up for with a really nice dynamic presentation, and (IMO) better, more fun bass response (not overdone).

I think i would enjoy a more dynamic headphone more than one with a really 'good' or wide soundstage. The whole sound stage has me stumped a bit too - headphones won't be able to push the soundstage forward like where an orchestra would be if you went to watch them, or sitting in front of some home speakers. It's nice if the music doesn't feel too much inside your head, but i don't really need extra airy wide sound either. I feel the AD900 is enough for me in this regard.

Actually these days its impressive what you can do with car audio, and the sound stage can be lifted so it's floating onto of the dash, and the sub bass can be brought forward so it feels like it's around you as well, not in the boot.

I'd like to have the best of both world's, say a pair of mspro's and dt880's.

When i listen to current bands like Radiohead who really layer their music I really desire a wide soundstage.

Although, when I listen to 60/70's rock bands like Zeppelin or Hendrix I wan't the sound to be very dynamic. Even older jazz or classical recordings benefit from a more upfront presentation due to poor recording technolgy back then.

That would be ideal :)

I think the AD900 lack a lot of low end guts, just a bit too airy sometimes.

MS-Pros are just freakin expensive.. that's the only bad thing :)

DT-880's have fast become one of my favourite headphones. Would reach for them over something like the K701's all the time now.

I think if i sold my AD900+DT250 i'd probably go for the MS Pro or DT880.

I have been seriously thinking about trying the DT880.

You would need to fork out for a decent amp if you get the 880s.

Ha, Ha, Ha.

I'll assume that's a payback.

Unfortunately I've got tubes but not in my main setup.

How much do the DT880's leak?

Also, how good an amp would you guys recommend?

Thinking about reconfiguring and simplifying my gear. I only have a need for one set of headphones at home.

From all comments are the DT880 more exciting than the above two phones, yet non fatiquing and smooth? The DT250 are great for a closed pair but a bit too level for my liking, and the AD900 is a bit forward with the treble and airy. Feel like a need a more solid deeper quality sound. I suppose if i did use itunes and had a good desktop amp it would be a good chance to run bit perfect IF it works properly on a Windows PC compared to Mac.

I don't think I have ever heard the DT880 described as smooth......

Err maybe i used the wrong word. I meant 'not-harsh like the MS2'.
I find laid back or too smooth is a bit boring, but nice.

They don't leak a lot actually. More than the ESW9s and a lot less than the DT250s if that answers your question. I tried them on the Headphonics desktop amp aided by Felix (he might be able to fill you in on which make) and I also got a listen on a Corda Cantata. There was a difference, the Cantata was a bit smoother but it wasn't a revalation. Mind you, I only had a short run on both before I fell in love and eloped, so don't take my word for it after that quick and dirty assessment. I run mine on my X-Can V3s. No complaints at all. But there is never a complaint until you listen to really nice gear or read about really nice gear. It's best to stay clear of the Leederville shop (those hairy dudes'll nail ya) and don't log in to weird websites.

Eh? The DT880 definitely leak more than the ESW9 and DT250.
Please forgive my brief responses, my injuries make typing slow and fairly painful.

Yeah sorry, got the less than/more than thing mixed up there. They leak a hell of a lot more than the DT250s (obviously) and more than the ESW9s.
