My Yuin PK2s keep dying - good alternative?

Postby DTU » Wed Feb 08, 2012 4:39 pm

Hey all,

So I've just burnt through my third set of Yuin PK2s. While they're great earbuds, I'm finding after 9 months or so they've all had one earbud die.

My current set are still warranty covered and I'm looking to replace them with something similarly-priced. I'd probably be looking to move to something a little more comfortable but still portable - the Sennheiser PX200s are looking tempting. Can anyone recommend anything in particular?

Koss Portapro could be a good bet if you don't need sound isolation. Also Brainwavz HM3, not quite as portable but great sounding and closed

I've been using the HM3 as a portable walking around the supermarket and in the lab while been doing mad science, and yeah, they are great.

Haven't tried them riding my bike yet, but they are great otherwise.

I was actually thinking of getting some PK3 or PK2 as a basic out-and-about headphone and popped into the shop a couple of weeks ago - I was like a kid in a candy store :D

On the subject of the PK2 durability, is this a common issue or just "luck" ?

Also, when will the PK2 and PK3 be available again ?

They're not particularly durable so they don't stand up to abuse/excessive out-and-about use. I don't really consider the build an issue, but the jack should be more secure

Mid Feb is when our stock is due
