EARBUDS WITH GOOD BASS? HELP!!!

Postby daveygoh » Wed May 02, 2007 11:40 am

Hi all, i was recommended to this site by a friend as i was told that Headphonic sells pretty good headphone / earphone products in Perth (bonus for me because i live quite close).

After being disappointed by thousands of Panasonic, Sony products etc, i thought it would time for a nice change.

Anyway i was wondering if anyone could recommend me any earbuds (non-canal ones) that provide good bass for under $100?. Im not a fan of inner-canal earphones because ive been told they go in "wet", and can be quite uncomfortable.

I just browsed through the Headphonic product catalog and this product caught my eye: "Beyerdynamic DTX 10"

Does anyone know what type of sound this produces? Im more of a bass-goer as i listen mostly to trance/hardstyle/dance.

Hope someone out there can help me out! :)

Canalphones are your best bet ;)

Only the deep insertion models (Etymotic range and Shures with Triflange tips) are inserted "wet", the rest have shallow insertion tips and are far FAR more comfortable AND better sounding than earbuds.

My recommendation? The Vsonic VS-R02, unfortunately we've just sold out but these have excellent bass as well as good overall detail.
You generally won't get heavy bass from earbuds because they don't couple with the ear properly.

With that said, if you're hell bent on earbuds, the Yuin PK2 is quite nice, but I'd still take the Vsonic over them.

wow thanks for the fast reply!

Well i dont mind getting canalphones, i just want something where i have to push the earphone really deep into my ear (until it gets wet).

Currently i own a pair of Panasonic RP-HJE50. The sound quality is not bad (in terms of bass), but to hear anything decent out of them i have to push them really far into my ear , which is something i dont feel comfortable with.

However, i am willing to try a different brand of canalphones to see how they pair up with my old ones. I saw that Headphonic is selling the V-Moda : Bass Freq? How do these fair up against most other canalphone products under $100? Generally im lookin for a pair of earphones that offer great bass, and good overall sound quality!

The Panasonic model you have is also considered a shallow insertion canalphone, they go in about 1/3 as far as the higher end models do. I think you're misunderstanding "wet" insertion by the way; higher end models that use a bi or triflange tip need to be lubricated before inserting them, otherwise it can be uncomfortable. Lower end models that have blunt or foam tips don't need to be lubricated.

You have to insert canalphones properly or they don't make a seal, which means they don't sound that great.

The Vmoda Bassfreq are very bassy, but don't have nearly as good detail as models like the Vsonic or Ultimate Ears MetroFi.

Hmm okay i kind of get what you mean ;)

Just 3 Questions:
1. When will the Vsonic: VS-R02 be back in stock?
2. Does the V-Moda include different size blunt tips?
3. Is it worth paying the extra to get the Vsonic / Ultimate Ears MetroFi? (in other words is there a HUGE difference compared with the V-Moda?)
