Pretending to read people's minds is my party trick, though having psychology training helps. It was an inference based on your personality and that vertex ssd's have the highest fail rate at the moment. Vertex's fail rate at the moment, depending which model you buy, could be as high as 8-10 times that of the intel 300 SSDs. Not sure about intels new sandforce ssds.

Yeah the car will be pretty cool :O

White Mazda 3 Neo (base model :O). Its the smallest car I have ever owned in terms of kw/hp but its also the newest. Most of the cars I have owned in the past have been at least 10 years old.

Well, good work on the SSD guessing. Yeah Vertex 4s are failing a lot according to the vendor. 20% return rate....

Nothing like the smell of a new car. :D

The fail rate on the current gen intel SSDs with the intel controller is like 0.4% (aside from the firmware bug that they fixed). They also buffed the warranty up to five years on some models due to the bug affecting a few people. The bug was that if you cycled the power on your computer on and off rapidly about 100 times, you could get the intel SSD to fail as the controller would then only recognise 650kb of nand.

The old laptop I gave to my bro has a first gen second hand intel SSD and its still going strong, though suffers from some performance loss, though I did the fix so not that much.

Intels controller isn't the fastest but by far it is the most reliable. Few people know that you can increase the efficiency of its non-trim background garbage collection routines by increasing the unallocated space. If you do it properly, you can increase the durability by double by having 30% of the space on the drive as unallocated. However that feature doesn't translate into sequential read/write speed so most consumers don't know about it.

Razer Mamba 4G gaming mouse. I don't even know what the hell games I'm using this for.

Going to get a gaming keyboard too, but not for gaming, of course.

I would only ever get... Intel, Samsung and Micron.

Actually, this netbook I'm using has got a Kingston SSD, only 30gb but going well for 1.5 years now, that is without any maintenance.

I double dare you to notice the difference when you put in an Intel compared to the Vertex4 under real world usage. :)

Intel (produce best nand, most reliable but slowest controller, except for the new sand-force versions)
Samsung (Second largest producer of nand, however their current gen nand is too slow, next gen will be alright)
Micron (reliable but relatively slow controller)

My SSD causes me all kinds of OCD problems.

I literally spent hours of my life trying to make windows write almost nothing to the OS drive to maximise its lifespan. :wasted:

Two intel SSDs so far, 0 problems. First gen and a third gen. knock on wood. Both so far have lost less than 1% of their lifespan (and I bought the first one second hand). I calculated at my rate of use, they should last about 15 years... though probably capacitors will fail in 5-10 years.

I have the Intel x25-m or whatever it was called and the generation after that, the 510. Also I think the SSD in my Samsung 7 slate is of Samsung origins.
