Its weird - the people who have met Ray seem to be in awe of his technical prowess, but out here in cyberspace he seems to have made a lot of enemies - beats me.

beefy, I stand corrected. Again. :o

I don't intend to correct anybody, he probably has some good points. But when I can't be bothered reading somebody because of their arrogance? Well, that is clearly indicative of serious problems.

With respect to Ray, I haven't ever seen any indication that he has a really good technical prowess. Clearly a good marketer and businessman though.

And kwkarth? Epic fucking facepalm on that guy.

I don't mind arrogance, for some reason, so long as they're not an over-the-top douche :wasted:

Ray's service essentially stops at the sale, which is basically my key problem with him since I don't know enough about building an amplifier to critique his work. But you won't get any kind of handy assistance without forking unnecessary amounts money over, and he refuses to post specs.

While I'm not one to sit down and not listen to something based on specs/price; not publishing specs that are easy to get just makes it look like they're trying to hide something.

I'm not sure what Kwkarth's deal is. He talks about being experienced and knowledgeable a lot, but I've only ever seen the opposite.

I knew there was something amiss with his amplifiers. Just couldn't put my finger on it.

He knows his target audience and knows how to market his products well. I'll give him that
Cowon J3 -> Vsonic R02ProII | B2 | T50P
DACMagic -> Matrix M-stage -> DT250 | AD900 | MS-1 | A2

He has also been banned from a few other audio forums. I think he is going for the record.

Getting banned from audio forums is like getting stabbed in Northbridge.

Interesting. Nwavguy has released his own open source/creative commons amp design: http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/07/o2- ... e-amp.html

lol good on him

at least something sort of good may come out of all this

usually although there is good reason to speak out, the manner in which it is done can make a difference

having said that, i'm not going to rule out that head-fi is run by corrupt communists either :lol:

BTW, for those of you with the skill to understand/critique amp design, his is up: http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/

He reckons it'll cost somewhere around $100 to build and have enough voltage to drive DT880s and enough current to drive HE-6s. Interested to hear what the more knowledgeable folk think.

As an effort in self-indulgence, where he has deliberately tried to not include every audiophile practice he has a beef with, it seems reasonably sound. Frankly, I can't see why a design like this is any improvement over something like the Pimeta (other than OMG 3-CHANNEL AMPS ARE TEH BAD!), so whatever floats your boat.
