RCA Cable?

Post by demon1300 » Sun Nov 13, 2011 7:59 pm

Ok, so just purchased an M-Stage through Marcus which should be here this week to go with my STX / HD650 combo. I've been doing a bit of reading and it seems that the whole expensive cable thing is just placebo. WIth that said, i'd like a decent RCA set that will last for years to come. Which would you recommed from the following:

Evolution or Vortex?:

OR

Something cheap like this from Jaycar:

Thoughts?

The main reason to buy a more expensive cable is for durability, like you might assume. Like you might not assume, the main difference is actually the durability of what protects the wire (which assists with cable drops etc), and not the wire itself (which wears as a result of tension etc). Of course, you can get thicker guage, different windings etc, but it's an RCA cable.

The cheaper option is probably more than adequate in this case, because you're not going to be throwing the cable around

If you've got a couple of spare bucks and would prefer a nicer looking cable, by all means, get a reasonably priced, yet more expensive cable.

I throw cables around a lot, and even I wouldn't spend as much as either of those on an RCA cable (or any cable I would ever need). There are much better options within australia for a nice looking, cheap RCA cable (CableChick, Swamp Audio, etc) and externally (bluejeans)

yes bluejeans are excellent. but i went with signalcable

brilliant RCAs, and if it werent for me picking up a hellcheap Audioquest -G optical cable, i would
have bought one of those too from signalcable.

highly recommended.

Jaycar's Concord cables are great. I *wouldn't* get the ones you linked (I have some) - they seem to be poorly shielded.

I get my Optical/Coax cables from Space Hi-Fi

Is it worth upgrading to Shielded RCAs from $3 JB Hi-Fi ones?
Cowon J3 -> Vsonic R02ProII | B2 | T50P
DACMagic -> Matrix M-stage -> DT250 | AD900 | MS-1 | A2

Only if you're noticing a lot of noise, then it may help; but even then it's also likely the noise is coming from elsewhere in the system. But still, if you've got some spare cash, it's not going to break the bank, exactly

These are the ones that I use and they are pretty good. They were around $40-$50

I just have a pair of Tara Labs Prisim 300i from my DACM to Headphone amp.
Don't think you would need anything much better.
