Cantate with Macbook Pro - Intermittent clicking/distortion.

Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of a problem running my Cantate smoothly with my Macbook Pro. There is intermittent clicking whenever I listen to music on iTunes or any other software. The clicking is not consistent and it can happen any time - not at the same timestamp within the song with repeated listens. All software volume bars are up at maximum, and I control the volume via the amplifier's knob.
I'm listening to ALAC/FLAC files, and the Cantate is plugged in via the USB cable, so it is running as a DAC and Amp. The weird thing is, this doesn't happen when I'm using my Cantate on a PC with Foobar and the WASAPI plug-in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With my MacBook Pro, sometimes after pausing iTunes for a few minutes, the audio cuts in and out at regular intervals with a lot of distortion and the distortion gradually reduces and so do the intervals until the audio is back to normal. This problem and yours are just one of the many reported audio issues with the MacBook Pro so I think it is safe to say that it's not your Cantate especially if it works on your PC. Is yours the unibody MBP or the old one?

Yeah, I have the unibody 13 inch one. I was unaware that the Macbook Pros have problems with the audio - had I known, I might have been a bit more hesitant to buy one.

I had assumed you had one of the older models. My early 08 model has hissing and static through the headphone output and I've heard of other people having problems with the S/PDIF output. Haven't read anything about your specific model though.
