Ok, so I'm home, sitting here A/Bing between the O2 and the Beta22, each being fed by a laptop into a Cambridge Audio DacMagic, with Angel Of Death going the whole time. Verdict, the Beta22 is much clearer, I can distinctly hear each guitar, sounds more like I'm listening to instruments, rather than a recording. The O2 has a much narrower sound stage, less separation between instruments, less channel separation, and the high notes hit in the guitar solos sounded brittle.

I call shenanigans :S

I don't think an amp makes sound stage wider and/or separates instruments better. Pretty sure that's what the headphone does? An amp just gives the headphone more power to play to it's full potential which shouldn't vary between the same model headphone, right? o.o

I disagree - the amp can only 'extract' something that is in the headphones/speakers in the first place, but a bigger/better amp is going to do a better job of doing that. I know that from my time with the AD900.

Yeah, Talisman T-31H vs 33H makes soundstage/channel separation etc more apparent, so amps definitely make a difference.

Amps definitely give seperation.

Reminds me of the pickups on my Ibanez RG570, the pickups with scooped mids definitely give a more 'hi-fi' tonality to the sound.

Guys, this thread started over 2 months ago - surely one of you is close to completing a build by now ? For all I know, Oliver spent my deposit on DVD porn and Guiness, but the 02 seems to have fallen off the radar. Novelty may just have worn off, I guess. :crybaby:

Damn it grevillea!

I'm still waiting on the slowest group buy organiser to get his sh!t sorted. I wasn't overly fussed by the wait though compared to most, until now that is.

Must be one hell of a group buy - Oliver claims his amps will be ready for shipment 2 weeks from now. At least you get to mod your amp to suit yourself - I just have to take what I get and be happy. :D
