I would still like you to listen to the Ficher Audio FA-011 that I told you about, but you are never in when I come...

Even with our dollar hovering around parity (and above parity when the 02 was announced), I never considered it a '$30 amp', but at least it doesn't carry the RSA tax.

Oh, so I suppose you would not like my version of the O2 with special ordered silver with intricated 24 carat gold cabling? I can also optionally add a secret part that could muliply the already big soundstage (due to the mentioned cabling) ten fold. It will be sold for the very reasonable price of $1999.99...

I must say I'm quite impressed with the overall performance, especially considering the price. I've built several high end amps including a 3 channel B-22 and a First Watt F2 Clone, among others. I've never heard an amp sound this good at the price point. That being said, I think my ears prefer a more colored, midrange-forward presentation offered by other amps, such as my SOHA.

Grev, as I said earlier, do you really want a neutral amp ? I'm not sure that I do, but I doubt that I've ever owned a genuinely neutral amp - it will be a novelty.

And why would you want your amp to colour the sound? That's what the source and headphones are for. IMO the amp should just power the headphone sufficiently and nothing else.

^^ This. If you want a different sound, buy different headphones. A "coloured" amp just adds to the possible permutations of gear config to get the sound you like.

A *really* neutral map is very expensive, so we're told. It's the audiophile end game, to ensure that all potential artefacts are minimised. Also a load of wank IMO. My first amp had plenty of grunt but wasn't too refined, clearly boom-tish. Is that colour or just poor sound? The Matrix doesn't have that mid range hole. Is that colour or simply better delivery of power allowing the phones to sound smoother/as they were meant to?

To my ears, the very nice Talisman isn't any more neutral, it does sound a little different though.

Yes, I do, since I play instruments and have relative good pitch (not perfect pitch though ), I would want a neutral amp, especially when it's 'portable'. :P Plus it would be a good benchmark being so clinically and all, isn't it?
