You're lucky you get a fair bit for 1k with headphone audio, don't get much for 1k if it was home theatre or car audio  .

With 1k I could buy the right side of a B&W 703 and run it from the onboard :D

I got a pair Paradigm titans and a yamaha receiver for around $1k.

You still can get quite a bit for $1k.

Apparently, yes, but it's not a comparison I've done.
If Felix has time, he might be able to test the DACMatrix combo vs his STX :)

Well I'm waiting for mine to arrive so I can finally find out what the HF hype was all about on the Mav D1.

Who knows, I might finally write my impressions on something

pretty significant difference imo. Didn't think so at first, but after a couple of months I switched back to stx and it was a step down.

Agree, it's very noticeable and offers better instrument separation (at least from my x-fi). The fact you need an amp also helps the sound, but at least it doesn't sound like a sound card.

On board is a lot better than it used be, probably can't tell with computer speakers.

Tempting, but so is the imminent DACMagic Plus with headphone stage, and 24/192 USB.

Ha - I've been asking for this for ages from the Australian Cambridge distributor, who has been passing my requests on. Great to see :)

Hopefully they can hit their release date and the headphone stage doesn't suck ;)
