i think the MS2s tick most of your boxes.

the DT250 will do well as a closed option .....

That's what I thought. I might look into buying the DT250 later on.

Have you tried the MS2, and did you find them fatiguing?

yep, tried the MS2s. quite liked them. they are definately energetic, and upfront.

but i got a good deal on some modded 325s. which i feel are a little more bright and fatuiging than the MS2s. although that has
somewhat been addressed with the mods.

The RS2 is a very different headphone to the MS2. Allesandro, sadly, dont market anything between MS2 and MS-Pro : I dont know if Grado mandated that in their agreement, but its basically Ms-PRO or bust unless you are especially wealthy and can afford the RS1 (or insane enough to shell out for the GS1000, PS500/PS1000).

Ok.

This has turned into a headphone thread...:)

Anyway, I've narrowed it down to the MS2, DT250 and I've started looking at the HD650 again. I know some people don't think the Matrix Cube would drive the HD650, but are you really sure? I know it won't be driven at its full potential, but don't you think it would still be a decent match for them?

Thanks

I thought your budget was $500? You won't even get the HD650 for that.

I said I could expand my budget to $450 for an amp and source upgrade, which would bring me to about $600-700. If $289 is spend on the Matrix Cube, that extra money could go towards the headphones.

And I'm looking here ($450):
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Sennheis ... 2a141f4ee2

But I'm not too sure about buyinh headphones off eBay. I'd buy them from Headphonic if they stocked them, and at a reasonable price

I might even be able to audition them because Carlton Audio Visual stocks them, but I don't know if they audition headphones. I think they're $899 there!!!

Marcus does stock 650s - he's just not allowed to advertise the fact.

Anyone selling them for $900 should be asked why, when RRP is around $600.

He does? Can I buy them online? For how much?

And any other thoughts about the Matrix Cube running them?

Also, could I get the M Stage and buy a cheap-ish DAC somewhere else? If so, what would you recommend?

Thanks,
Matt

You'll have to call him for a price and cube info, Senn deems him an 'online' store so won't let him advertise their premium stuff.

The M-Stage will definitely run them, but as for a DAC - like anything at this end, you shouldn't skimp anywhere in the chain, any big mismatches in components will short-change the end result. THe more you spend on headphones, the better your back up gear needs to be.

Ok. Thought so.

Have you ever tried the HD650? And do you think it'll cost over $500 from Marcus?

What did you think of it and how did it sound? And would it be worth buying for $450 from eBay?

Thank you

If I were to buy a higher end Senn, that would be it.

I wouldn't buy any pricey items off ebay.

You'll need to email us to get pricing on the HD650 unfortunately, however the Matrix Cube will not be anywhere near enough to do them justice and I'd expect the combination to sound quite disappointing considering the total cost outlay.
