Galaxy S2

Post by no4918 » Fri Dec 09, 2011 8:00 am

Hi all
Looking at a possible upgrade from the galaxy. Not really liking the sound with my DT440s and looking for new canals as well. Volume is way down from the iphone and it lacks detail and dynamics. EQ on poweramp doesn't help much.
Under $100 the Sansa Clip Zip seems about the only option. Is it worth buying the Sansa or get a Fiio amp even though most people consider them rubbish at this budget?

I can't tell if you have an iphone, a galaxy s or a galaxy s2....

For the S there's and app called Voodoo that does a lot to improve the sound quality (most noticeably gives you *a lot* more volume).

If you're asking if you should upgrade from the S to the S2, the answer would be 'no' if you're motivated by sound quality. AFAIK the S2 is a step backwards in terms of the DAC chip, and doesn't have a voodoo-like tweak.

I have no idea why you mentioned an iphone.

mmmm.... was it really not that clear?

The title of the thread is Galaxy s2. Mentioned an iphone because i had it previously and was stating points of difference between the iphone and the S2.
And i am considering upgrading to the Clip Zip or buying an amp to improve SQ.

A FiiO amp isn't going to improve sound quality, just give phones more power and volume.
Sansa Clips are really good with easy to drive headphones (RE0, MS1, KSC75, AD900) but I wouldn't know how they go with DT440.
If you have noticed this notice, you will have noticed that this notice is not worth noticing.

The DT440 are 32 ohm like the others mentioned, so they should be no harder to drive. And if you know it runs the AD900 well, then it should be the same with the DT440. There really isn't much on the market for under $100 so the Clip would be a good choice.

Hmmmm....looked into that voodoo app and it looks a bit scary trying to put it on your phone. Anyone done it?

It's pretty simple. It comes as part of cyanogenmod if you go down that route. If not, so long as you've rooted the phone, you can just install the paid app: https://market.android.com/details?id=o ... b25hdGUiXQ..
