For those with too much money ...

Post by grevillea » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:55 am

Maybe its just me, but the phrase 'maxed out headphone amp' just took on a new meaning:

I'm not sure exactly what they plan to drive with this thing - a small city, perhaps - but you can imagine the look on the faces of mere mortals when you tell them you need that much metal just to listen to music with your headphones .....

Wow.

I imagine that it can only be run between 2 and 4 am - otherwise the world's power cuts out.

And you could get away with claiming that it is a time machine when talking to those 'mere mortals'

When you've got that kind of money, you can pay someone to talk to the mere mortals. It will just be you, Branson and Hef at the Playboy Mansion. Oh, and Marcus, of course.

I expect that the cabling required to make this rig work costs more than the sum total of my audio expenditure over the last 4 years. Jeff 'Im not dead yet' Edelsten probably has one on preorder.

Looks like old Ray has been busy in the garage over the previous Northern Winter.

OK, but gold doubloons went out some time ago ...

I have a debit card, but I still say 'credit card' out of habit. Its a filthy habit, but there you go.

Out of idle curiosity does anyone know what Woo has done - what do you think the "switching keys" are that let them swap valve types and speaker/phone outputs?

I'm more interested in exactly who they think is going to buy the thing - I know 'statement' kit isnt always about practicality and sales figures, but we arent talking a speaker rig here. If people can drive the HE-6 or whatever from the posts on a speaker amp, why are they going to spend thousands upon thousands to buy this monster ? Technically, its probably a 'triumph', but I doubt that it will be gracing too many bedside headphone rigs.
