I fear I have to retract my drunken statements in the impressions I made a few posts back in this thread, untill I have some more time with them getting thier settings / good placement + speaker stands / EQ tweaked / software (winamp & foobar) setup and configured etc.

In short, i still love em but i've realized they need a bit of tweaks in a few areas to really make them come to thier potential.
I think it has alot to do with not having the placement right + lack of stands. Also my xonar D2x may not be enough dac or source for them... I may end up investing in a dac or better source sooner than i think

*Edit* Q: would a pre amp be worth considering?

I'd apphreciate a lil input from anyone who wants to help...especially from anyone who actually owns them:
regarding whether they EQ thier A5's at all and how they have it set up in software, aka- asus control panel & media player settings.
*Oh and also how loud they have the speakers volume knob in relation to the pc's volume control (asus control panel)

Input from anyone who knows how much of an improvement is gained from going to a stock -to- xonar stx -to- next step up -to- higher end
would be much appreciated.

P.S: I re-instate my 1st impressions...after more extended listening, they wholly deserve them
now have them in my carpeted room on my computer desk on top of some decent density foam and with the similiar foam behind them to act as sound diffusing so they aren't rear porting thier sound directly onto the wall.

Has anyone seen or heard the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 Speakers from the apple store? A mate is raving about them just wondering how they would compare to the LSK M4's for example. Handy not needing an amp.

Can't say I've heard or seen them but B&W make really good speakers. The Apple store is usually a rip off and you might find them cheaper somewhere else.

There defininitely seems to be a lot of active 2 ch mini-bookshelf speakers appearing for the consumer market recently - which all in all should help the "on a budget" or "very limited space" consumer with more discernment for SQ than your average punter. I might have even been a little interested if i was in the market for that sort of thing, but i think this kind of product can only help in increasing the overall demand for quality hi-fi gear (or so i hope) which in the end should be good for all of us - of course that will only be the case if the standard of this sort of product is kept reasonably high.

I'd have a bit of hope that this product should be relatively decent, but would reserve judgement until hearing it myself. Of the B&W gear i have heard, I've definitely had a mixed reaction (all in their sort of middle of the range) some really impressed me, others left me underwhelmed. Personally the fact these don't provide the option for a sub-out would kill it for me. I don't care how much electronic voodoo is included, the laws of physics determine that a 3" driver in a little-bitty box cannot produce realistic (low freq) bass at reasonable listening levels - not saying these will or will not sound good mind you

For those looking for decent small(ish) 2ch speakers I have 3 words - "Active Nearfield Monitor" May or may not cost an arm, leg and spleen.
