I got a chance to play with one today. Everyone has a rich guy on your street who likes to stand outside with his new toy etc. Anyway, it's not bad. I could so see myself lying on the couch, browsing the net with this thing. However, I already do that with my netbook. Yeah it's a lot bigger (when opened) but it has/does a few things that I sort of want from a portable device. Maybe if I had an iPhone or a Mac, I'd be more inclined to pick the iPad over a slightly cheaper netbook. I guess it all comes down to the flippen mini keyboard on a netbook being ok for me.

In summary - iPad is pretty good, screen res does seem to push the cpu at times but it is pretty kick arse for spending an hour on the net.

I was sceptical at first but after having used one I can see why some people would like one. I think the biggest issue is that most people, like I did initially, treat it as a giant ipod touch. If apps are designed from the ground up to make use of the full size of the screen, they overall experience can be quite good but in it's current state it seems like a nice thing to have rather than something somebody actually needs.

Don't knock it until you've tried it :P

It's not intended as a notebook/netbook replacement and it's definitely more than "just a giant iPod Touch".

With that said it suits my needs perfectly which mostly consists of showing photography to clients, temporary storage space for DSLR, travel companion, movie player, emailing, web browsing and an occasional game or two. I was using a notebook for this previously, but found it was so much of an effort to lug around (needing a separate bag and all) compared to iPad.

Of course it won't suit everyone's needs, but it's far from a fad IMO.

Well we got one for xmas. Using it now. Why?

They use them at my boys school. Yep, a state primary school with a fleet of Apple products.

At a basic level it gets kids into technology, not that they need much help, my son was scrolling a mouse and playing with Word when he was 3.

I actually like it, we play games together and he has ebooks and chess on there. The boy loves chess!

The wife likes it because its a bigger iPhone. I find it easer to surf with a home than the laptop because of the touch screen.
