Hmm it is less safe but umm if you're mostly buying stuff from reputable people, there isn't a problem having it linked with your a/c. As you know, paypal can just take money out of your a/c during a dispute. If you have it linked to a credit card, your bank can (grumpily) reverse the payment.
I've had no safety issues with PP. Be warned though, the banks have stopped instantly clearing acct transfers (because they can't get to use your money in the 'processing' time lag). So if you want immediate processing, you need to nominate you CC.
Just make sure you have a nice long, complicated password for paypal and you never click any emails from "paypal" even if they are legit - visit the homepage directly. Make sure you have a virus scanner and something like spybot/ad-aware that you use now and then. With just these basic security methods, security won't really be an issue.
