M-Stage no sound

Postby Aetern » Thu Nov 10, 2011 6:57 am

Hey guys.

I recently purchased an m-stage right here at headphonic. received it yesterday. I am experiencing an issue here. no sound out of right headphone channel. but when I plug it in half way into the jack, i get sound out of both. I am hooking it up to my Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card. I made sure everything was correctly setup, and tried different settings etc. But still same thing. I am wondering what may be causing this? I think the amp is the original fully black coloured version as well, not sure. may be a fault, or what? Cheers!

I don't have the m-stage, but AFAIK there's dip switches on the bottom to control gain (one set of switches per channel). As a starting point, make sure both are set to the same values.

Also, make sure you try a different lead from your soundcard, and (if you have one) a different source (ipod etc).

Gain settings are fine. Will try a different rca cable, and report back :).

I had exactly the same issue with a portable amp from China a while back - I will be very surprised if its the cable.

Coz cables never break?

IME, 80% of any channel problems have been in the cable (or plugs). Of course it's possible that the amp is dodgy, but cables break all the damn time. Easier to check than ship it back to Headphonic, just to find out there's nothing wrong with it.

Sound is fine out of both phones now, but hearing interference always. like a crackling sound. :( EDIT: this is another dodgy cable I think.. they are too loose in the sockets. it was suppose to be decent from dse gold plated etc. thought it would be fine, but I guess not. im new to cables like these, which is why I didn't know. going to jaycar tomorrow to pick up another one :S.

Even basic cheapness from DS should be fine. I shudder to think how little my RCAs cost.

I see. why are they so loose then. maybe it doesnt matter. not sure about the static then. and it's unbearable sometimes really loud wave sounding static.

RCAs should fit snug. If you can't find a set that do, maybe the Matrix plugs are at fault?

The RCA's on mine are snug, although cheaper ones should work as normal too.

See how you go after using another cable or could a warranty return.

it's working fine now with a cable from jaycar. So it was the cable I think. now though, still getting a faint kind of waving sound static when testing the left/right in cards control panel. but not really noticing it in music. when I turn up the volume on desktop, and click it, for about 2-3 seconds it would give me a kind of static, and then stop, maybe cause of too high volume. Also have to turn up the amp to around 80% to get volume I desire, and gain settings set to 10dB. and volume in desktop set to 35% ish. using Ultrasone Pro 2900s.

I don't think you should be using software volume and control panel to use an external amp. Leave PC volume on max and use the amps volume control.

No you shouldn't need 10db of gain on 80% volume. I have my 80ohm phones on 10db and comfy volume is at about 11 o'clock.

Drubbing is a smart man. I leave my software volume (foobar) on max.

Unless when I'm playing games and using comms. Volume mixing is turning into one of my pet peeves >_>
