Whoa, bassy compared to what?
I definitely wouldn't consider them "bassy" although the bass response is good.
I find the 520 bassier, the ESW9 way bassier... M50 much bassier...

Blackhawk's pair seemed quite bassy to me. Bassier than the DT250 (but that was only from an ipod) and going from the 540 to the Pros was like taking a subwoofer away. Everything sounds bassy compared to the Pros.

Getting the ESW9 doesn't seem like a good idea any more. ;)

I wouldn't call them bassy. They go a little deeper than the MS-1's, but do so without losing the snappy hard hitting bass that people enjoy.

I was thinking about getting some new cans for travel on the train, and I was tossing up between these and the trusty ES7, and I was wondering, how portable are these?

I'd consider them a semi-portable, the circumaural earcups mean they're a little larger than models like the ES7.

I got a pair of these quite a while ago, awesome buy in my book. They leak a bit, but it's barely noticeable, I take them nearly everywhere I go! These are definitely an option for your situation and would recommend them over the ES7's. And if you ask me, I think they look better as well! :)

Yeah, just got my K540 today, and so far I'm impressed with the sound. Marcus, the earpads are huge, and comfy  . I have to say overall, I'm liking these definitely over the ES7's. @blackhawk, yeah I think I look better with these too XD.

thinking about these as a possible office pair.. not that i need them :P
thing is unlike a lot of people its better for me if i can hear people around me talking, incase they yell out to me (Design studio).
so open 'phones are usually better. these are semi...how do they compare vs a fully open?

EDIT: nvm - after re-reading the OP by marcus sounds like they're fine to still hear a bit of what's going on around

How do the compare overall to an open pair like Beyer DT990s?

How do these sound compared to the AKG K242HD?

I'm after a pair of phones for use connected to my Yamaha home theater amp later at night when everyone else is sleeping and I want to watch TV/movies/sport on the big plasma.
