Linux Distros

I'm currently using Ubuntu, and enjoying the 6-7 second boot up times a lot (Times Variate), just wondering what you guys like to use. I heard Linux Mint is good, looks pretty cool aswell.

Also if you could list what alternatives you use to replace foobar2000, im yet to find one that is satisfying!

I use Ubuntu currently but I used Arch Linux for 2 years previously and loved it for its bleeding edge qualities.

Using ubuntu isn't really using linux. :P I use Puppy Linux on my netbook, I also have Debian, openSUSE and Fedora on my older laptop, they're fun, puts the fun back into computing.

And my main computers are Macbook Pros... And I use Windows machines to trade and work.

Rather than use Linux, I decided to use SSDs instead. Win7 is somewhat optimised for SSDs or rather its less unoptimised. Haven't touched Linux since redhat almost a decade ago. hmmm come to think of it, the only reason I stopped was because it was a pain getting the work network to properly work with windows pc's with the central linux server. It was less painful just to switch to windows 2000.

I've tried most of the main ones over the years. Arch is probably my favorite as a plaything, but it is quite demanding of time and skill that I don't really have.
I use Ubuntu now, I've actually used it as my primary OS for a few years now. I used to like trying other distros too (although I've always vastly preferred apt to rpm). But others have Gnome 3 and ubuntu has unity, which I think is just so much better, so I don't bother trying them much anymore. I'm also a bit over distro hopping generally, I just want a stable and familiar working environment.

You won't find a media player like foobar on linux. I use Banshee personally, but it is no foobar. What features are you after in particular?

you will find a very different and much improved experience these days, i use win 7 and linuxmint 12, but started with opensuse 9.1 which must have been nearly 10 years ago now.

Linux Mint. Started with an early version of Slackware in the mid-90s : had to configure X by hand and other fun stuff - its much better now.

Before I tagged into Ubuntu, I thoroughly used Red Hat...then I played around with oracle vm etc. Now I'm using Ubuntu for the stability of a Windows like machine with all the improvements. Looking into Jrocket at the moment to see what I can mess around with :P. But yeah, I am getting tired of changing over in rapid succession, and yet again after this discussion I want to install more distros and OS's! I stupidly installed one of my windows partitions alongside my linux one, so they both are running on the same drive and im getting some conflicted issues...know I want to reformat my whole hdd and start again! I think I will quickly backup, install Mint, and just install one windows os. I'll leave the rest of the space to play around with if I find something knew

Thanks for the link, I'll check it all out after I reinstall , but first I must play games :P
