Introducing the OVC TC20, another budget giant killer!

Postby Marcus » Thu Nov 15, 2007 10:08 am

I've had a sample of one of these on my desk for a few weeks now, so I'm pretty happy that our shipment finally arrived :)
Specs etc can be found here.

They're small, comfy and sound great!
Of course the first thing everyone is going to ask is how they compare to the Vsonic.
Well, first I have to say they are easier to fit, which is a great start. I never really had any trouble with the Vsonic, but I know a lot of our customers did as the standard blunt, cone-shaped tips they come fitted with are pretty terrible.
Well the tips of the TC20 are much like those found on the CX300, or Ultimate Ears series. They're soft and comfy, and they come in small, medium or large sizes.

After fit, I think the Vsonic does sound better than the TC20, but again if you aren't getting a good fit with canalphones, they will sound terrible no matter what you do, so a lot of people will find the TC20 sounds better than the Vsonic, purely due to the fact that they are much easier to get a good fit with :)
Overall the Vsonic has better bass response and a fuller sound, so if you're getting a good fit with the Vsonic, I wouldn't bother with the TC20 ;)

I think the only thing I'd like a bit more of from the TC20 is bass, otherwise they're great and definitely recommended for the price.

That is heaps good news! I'd think I'll try the Vsonic's first, and then see if they fit me or not!

but for those having trouble with the vsonics, this is your cloud 9 of earphones :D

I have been looking around for reviews for these phones on the net and the CrossRoads MylarOne Earphone comes up a lot. Are OVC and CroosRoads the same company? I am asking this because a lot of the ppl on th net call the CrossRoads MylarOne Earphone as the upgraded OVC tc20.

In that case why not stock the CrossRoads instead. Apparently they have a better bass response that the TC20 lack. Or am I missing something...

Compared to...

Postby kamian » Tue Nov 20, 2007 8:32 pm

How would these compare vs the more expensive headphones... ~ $200 budget. Is it worth going for something like the ATH-CK9 or ER6i? I want them to use under my helmet, not too fussed about isolation, more concerned with them staying in my ears while putting the helmet on and sounding good.

At the moment I already own a set of ATH-AD700 and ATH-EW9's and looking to upgrade to AD900's in the near future... to let you know what I'm used to and would want something similar in quality...

The ER-6i offers around 35dB while the TC20 doesn't get anywhere near that. If anything I'd say the TC20 is more appropriate for use under a helmet because you might still be able to hear at least some of what's going on around you, whereas the ER-6i blocks just about everything.
Sound quality of the ER-6i is higher, whether that's important is up to you.
The CK9 I'm indifferent toward, they aren't good, they aren't bad, they're just mediocre.

The MetroFi is a little bassier and a little more durable, but that's about it :)

The SuperFi3 is definitely worth the extra.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.

Hmm.. now i gotta really see if i can extend my budget to get the superfi's =)

What exactly do you's mean by "more durable"? as in the wires/cables dont tear/break as easy/soon?

apart from the bass, can the tc20 be considered as an upgrade from the cx300?
