Specifically designed for use within the music industry, the Alessandro MS-1 is a fantastic sounding headphone for rock music or any music where the listener would like a more up front and dynamic presentation.
The Alessandro MS-1 manages to sound energetic without being harsh or fatiguing, “music series” is spot on! They are lightweight open headphones that are easily driven from portable devices.
One of our favourite headphones under $200 the MS-1 is hard to beat!
This model terminates in a 3.5mm plug.
We only stock the newer “MS-1e” revision.
All Music Series headphones have a vented diaphragm design that incorporates a large air chamber. This design lowers the frequency resonance (distortion) of the diaphragm and extends bass response. A unique process to de-stress the diaphragm results in enhanced inner detail. The diaphragm is made of a low mass polymer, carefully formed to broaden resonant modes to reduce their amplitude. The diaphragm’s total mass is calculated to provide a full 20 KHZ bandwidth while avoiding breakup at lower frequencies.
The Music Series One, Two and Pro headphones all feature voice-coils that are wound from ultra-high purity, long crystal (UHPLC) oxygen free copper. Ultra-high conductivity copper yields the clearest transmission and lowest coloration possible. This combined with high power neodymium magnets provide maximum efficiency giving a smoother, cleaner and more dynamic sound and a larger perceived sound stage.
As a complete experience, listening to music with the MS1 is, for the lack of a better word, vivid, and fewer sacrifices in terms of coloration are made in comparison to the cheaper Grado SR60i, the similarly-priced SR80, or even the pricier SR125. Though the MS1 suffer from the same isolation, comfort, and portability issues as the competing Grados, they offer quite a lot of sonic bang for the buck. It should be noted that due to the global nature of Alessandro’s pricing, the MS1 may be an even better deal outside of the US, where the better-known Grado cans are often sold with huge markups. For those who wouldn’t mind a bit more excitement in their (audio) life, the MS1 is one of the best audio experiences...
The Alessandro is also one of the clearest sounding cans you can have for the price. Although not very 3D sounding, the MS1i is surprisingly detailed. Instrument separation is very good, albeit limited in small soundstage. I also noted that speech legibility is very good; I was able to follow each line of the lyric sang by the singer.
In the $150 range, and particularly for listening to rock (but all genres sound great) the MS1s are hard to beat.
